ICC reopens Sydney Test investigations, sends Akmal notice
    Caribbean Herald

    (IANS)

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has sent Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal an official notice saying he is under investigation for being involved in match fixing in the Sydney Test.

This came just months after the Pakistan team was cleared of any wrongdoing in the Test which they lost from a winning position earlier this year.

Kamran, who dropped four catches in Australia's come-from-behind victory, appeared to have wriggled off the hook when the ICC closed their Sydney Test investigation.

'Pakistan opening batsman Yasir Hameed has reportedly confirmed the SCG Test was rigged and players involved in the corruption had pocketed $3 million for the staged loss,' The Courier Mail reported.

Former Australian wicketkeeper Ian Healy has maintained from the beginning that Kamran wasn't cheating.

'You couldn't drop those on purpose the way he was,' Healy said.

Cricket Australia boss James Sutherland Tuesday conceded that Australia's win in Sydney was under a darkening cloud.

Pakistan cricket is mired in fixing allegations after three of its cricketer - Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamer - were named for spot-fixing in the fourth Test against England at Lords last month.
