El Diario/La Prensa, Posted: Aug 14, 2006
NEW YORK -- New York Democratic leaders are preparing to assist Cuba in its transition to democracy if there are sudden changes in the current regime, reports the Spanish-language El Diario/La Prensa. State senators created a commission that will examine economic exchange possibilities between New York and Cuba. New Yorkers and New York businesses should be ready to help Cuba’s transition toward a democracy and a market economy, said Sen. Efraín González (D-NY). The commission will explore New York's technological, financial and agricultural industries in possible alliances with Cuba. It will also make legislative recommendations to the federal and state governments.
